Sharing Daddy’s pillow

This morning, Ellie decided that the ripe hour of 6 a.m. was a good time to get up. Her daddy and I disagreed. Nathan brought her into our room and asked if she wanted to share his pillow. Who do you think got the better end of that deal?
Isn’t this precious?

I suck at stripping

Probably not something you’d share with most of the general population, right? I’m not ashamed at all to tell you this…because in this case its not as risky to share as you may think.
I was sitting at work today…processing books…which I actually find kindof fun (shh…don’t tell anyone). This process requires putting a metal strip in each book. My first couple of attempts were not asthetically pleasing causing me some frustration. Being the perfectionist that I am, i like things to look pretty. At one point I actually said out loud, before really thinking about what was coming out of my mouth, “I suck at stripping.”
I thought Stacey was going to fall off her chair.

American Rap Idol

So, Nathan and I are watching American Idol the other night and I always get excited when someone with a little edge is there to tryout.  I am a rocker at heart I guess.  Nathan says they’ll never make it because this show should be called American Pop Idol, and sadly I know he’s right.  I fear Chris Daughtry was the closest we’ll ever come to an Idol with “edge.”

So, we decided that Fox needs to come up with a new reality show – in lieu of any actual shows getting written this year – American Rap Idol.

We’re fairly certain this would be a success…with tryouts based on things like biggest bling, best rap name (accurate use of numbers and letters), best crotch grab (thanks Beth B for that suggestion!) and weekly themes on things like how to pick an entourage and how to take a bullet, how could this not be a winner? I’m telling you, we’d have a surefire hit on our hands.

So, there you go Fox…a new show idea I could really get wrapped up in!

My Ellie, the Climber

Now, Ellie hasn’t really ever been much of a climber, thank goodness.  She will do the occasional stand on the couch maneuver, or crawl up on to the fireplace, but was never really into standing on tables or anything terribly dangerous.

These are pictures of my little climber the other day, deciding she’d climb up and over the side of Daddy’s green chair.  She actually has quite the system.  She’ll step up on the arm for the footrest and throw herself over the arm of the chair, and then, she’ll hover there, not having enough weight to pull her over until she swings her feet up enough to give her that needed momentum. She’ll then sit up and exclaim “Made it, mommy.”

Doesn’t she look proud of herself?  It was hysterical to watch.  What was even better was right after she accomplished it, she thought her baby had to.  It was even funnier to watch her put her baby through the same motions.

I can’t help but laugh at her.  She is just so darn cute sometimes!

Manners

We’ve tried to teach Ellie to have good manners. We frequently tell her to say “Please” when she wants something, and “Thank you” when she receives it. She learned sign language for both of them first, and uses it about as often as she uses words. I think we’re doing pretty well and she does say both please and thank you on her own occassionally. Usually, though, we have to ask her, “What do you say” when she wants something, or we give her something. Sometimes she’ll stare at you and think about it for a moment and then try one, and if it’s not right try the other until she gets what she wants. I figure, at least she knows what to try right?

A couple days ago I was feeding her a snack, and was giving her pieces one at a time so she didn’t pack so much in her mouth that she couldn’t close it to chew and end up drooling snack all over. Whenever she would want another piece she would say “More snack” and I would say “More snack, what?” and usually she would come back with “More snack please.” Then I’d give her a piece of snack and say, “Now what do you say?” and occassionally she would remember to say “Thank you” One time I gave her a piece of snack and said, “Now what do you say?” and she patted me on the shoulder and said, “Good job Daddy. Good job.” It was very nice, and I decided it was the end of the manners lesson for that snack time.
