The conversation this past Thursday morning on the way to the doctor’s office…
Ellie: “Its too bad we don’t have a God”
Mom: “Ellie, what do you mean we don’t have a God?”
Ellie “‘Well, where is he? I can’t see him”
I guess I knew these questions would come sometime…i wasn’t thinking they’d come at three.
So it continues…
Mom: “He’s everywhere.”
Ellie: (looks around) “where”
Mom: “Do you think maybe he’s in heaven, up in the sky above the clouds?”
Ellie: (after thinking for a minute) “No, mom, God’s not a fairy,…He’s a people.
I’m thinking, she’s seeming to have this all figured out…
I guess I really didn’t have to worry too much about what to tell her because a minute later she pipes up and says “Mom, maybe God could just sit in my cup holder if it was cleaner…there’s some crumbs in it.”
I simply responded, “maybe he could.”
conversation over. (for now, I’m sure)
