a definite favorite

My Grandpa celebrated his 90th birthday on September 21, and we all got together to celebrate about a week later.

It was a great celebration with lots of food, lots of family, and lots of cake!

Their genuine smiles make this my favorite picture from that day.

A beautiful picture of my grandparents.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

“can you see it, mommy…can you see it?”

During dinner one evening…this is the question I got asked by my beautifully creative and always playful (especially with her food) daughter.

Can you see it?

“Its a face mommy. I made a face with my dinner.”

Oh, Ellie…so glad it was entertaining.

Update on the run

So, I forgot that I have readership here that I don’t have on facebook. Silly me, for not posting the results here. Sorry, Andrea!

The race went well…all 5 soggy, cold miles of it.

A balmy 48 degrees, and light rain. I was really hoping for some sunshine, so I could run with my ipod…but no such luck, so just me and my inner thoughts to occupy the better part of an hour.

I wasn’t the fastest, I wasn’t the slowest either…but not by much. :) I did finish, running (jogging by many standards) all 5 of those miles in 53 minutes and 35 seconds. I was pretty proud that in May of this year I ran the 4 mile run in 49 minutes, and this 5 miles only took me 4 more minutes. I’m improving.

I know I’ll never win one of these events,…especially after hearing the winning time for the women’s 8K was 37 minutes…but I’m resolved to know that I can finish these events. Something I definitely couldn’t say 6 months ago!

Scumble by Ingrid Law

At our last staff meeting, my assistant director told us about this website where we could request new copies of childrens to young adult books ro review. I was so excited! I’ve always wanted to be a reviewer of some sort…and I figure reviewing books instead of food would save me some calories…

The first book I requested was Scumble by Ingrid Law. Its the “companion” book to her Savvy. The following is the short review i posted on the website this morning.  If you’re looking for a good piece of juvenile fiction, you should check them out. I know a library that has them. ;)

I was so excited when I received Scumble!

I loved Savvy and really fell in love with all of the wonderful characters in the book.
I did have to go back and read a summary of Savvy to remember what special talents everyone had before I jumped into this book, and I think the reader would be a little lost on characters had they not read Savvy first.
I loved the idea of the ranch and having a place where you could truly explore who you are (and learn to control your abilities). What kid wouldn’t love a place where they could really be themselves?
Exploring your talents, appreciating your differences, and finding friends who are just as different as you are…what great themes for a juvenile fiction novel!
I would give this book a picnic basket 4. I will be recommending this book, as well as continuing to recommend Savvy.
I hope Ingrid Law writes a third, a fourth, or more. I’d love to read more about Gypsy and her hopefully developing Savvy.
It was a nice, light, fun read.
