Janette and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

Okay, so I should probably let it go already…but part of me is still steaming over my day last Thursday. A big enough part that I feel I need to share it.

Thursday started out as a normal day…Ellie was sleeping in, and I got a chance to check my email and take a shower without interruption – a monumental feat in a house with a two year old.

I received an email from a Chocolate store in Vermont (an order receipt) in response to my order a week prior to this. I thought this was strange since I had already received one…so I thought i would give said store a call. I call them a few minutes to 8 our time (they’re in vermont, obviously), so a few minutes to 9 their time. When I asked the woman on the other end of the phone about my order and why i had received another order receipt, she seemed to have no clue. She said they probably hadn’t even seen my order yet (from a week ago!). Since I had requested to have the item delivered on March 1st (two days from this incident), this upset me a little. I had words with the woman, who said she had one such item available and would mail it to me overnight if I would agree to pay for the express mailing. I was upset to say it nicely, but since it was something I needed for a project for work, I agreed, still fuming…

Don’t worry, she knew I wasn’t happy…which made me feel slightly better about the situation.

So, after this ordeal, Ellie wakes up and is her usual pleasant self, for about two hours, at which point, she pulls a dr. jekyll and mr hyde on me and is whiny and crying and throwing a fit about darn near everything. She wouldn’t even say hello to her grandparents who had stopped by…I was like “who is this child?”

I decide to be a bad mom and put in a video so I can make dinner for that evening and get it in the fridge. Well, the casserole I was making needed cheese slices. Did we have any? No…Did we have some the day before? Yes we did…but they had been eaten for dinner the evening before.

So, I go to the fridge looking for a substitute. I find velveeta, leftover from a different casserole, but velveeta never goes bad does it? I open it and find its new grayish color a little suspect. So, i throw it out…at which point i decide to call Nathan and tell him to pick up cheese slices over lunch and inform him that he’ll have to finish the casserole when he gets home from picking up Ellie at daycare.

While I’m cutting potatoes and trying to complete as much of the casserole as possible, the cat comes in the kitchen and starts eating things that I’ve dropped in the process. In a matter of minutes, she is throwing up.

Update on Ellie, still throwing a fit. Apparently Little Einsteins – not doing it today.

At what point did I admit defeat? I’m not sure i ever did. I got to work at 1:30, slightly early because of the fact that I just needed to get away from my house, my child, my throwing up cat, and the people that made me crazy to begin with – the chocolate people.

I’m happy to say that nothing else that day made me crazy enough to blog about…although I can say that the casserole I started didn’t look appetizing to me after I got home…wonder why.  So, i sat down with a bowl of cereal. Yum Yum.
