At our last staff meeting, my assistant director told us about this website where we could request new copies of childrens to young adult books ro review. I was so excited! I’ve always wanted to be a reviewer of some sort…and I figure reviewing books instead of food would save me some calories…
The first book I requested was Scumble by Ingrid Law. Its the “companion” book to her Savvy. The following is the short review i posted on the website this morning. If you’re looking for a good piece of juvenile fiction, you should check them out. I know a library that has them.
I was so excited when I received Scumble!
I loved Savvy and really fell in love with all of the wonderful characters in the book.
I did have to go back and read a summary of Savvy to remember what special talents everyone had before I jumped into this book, and I think the reader would be a little lost on characters had they not read Savvy first.
I loved the idea of the ranch and having a place where you could truly explore who you are (and learn to control your abilities). What kid wouldn’t love a place where they could really be themselves?
Exploring your talents, appreciating your differences, and finding friends who are just as different as you are…what great themes for a juvenile fiction novel!
I would give this book a picnic basket 4. I will be recommending this book, as well as continuing to recommend Savvy.
I hope Ingrid Law writes a third, a fourth, or more. I’d love to read more about Gypsy and her hopefully developing Savvy.
It was a nice, light, fun read.
